Plant Bio

Syngonium podophyllum Roxana

Syngonium podophyllum, also called Arrowhead Plant, Arrowhead Vine, or Nephthytis is a species of climbing vine in the Aroid family (Araceae), making it a relative of Monstera, Philodendron, and Pothos. It’s native to tropical rainforests in South and Central America. It loves subtropical conditions—so much so, it’s actually on the invasive species watchlist in South Florida (so we recommend growing this only as a houseplant, not as an outdoor plant). The variety Roxana (also called Roxanne) is a somewhat slower-growing selection with pink-flushed leaves.

Indoors, grow Syngonium Roxana in bright light for best leaf color. She appreciates both natural and artificial light, and tolerates medium and low light conditions. Ideally, give her a spot within 2 to 3 feet of an unobstructed east- or west-facing window. Water it as the top 25 to 50 percent or so of the potting mix dries to the touch and take care to avoid overwatering. Syngonium Roxana thrives in average to above-average household temperatures; keep her above 55F for best performance. Average to above-average relative humidity levels are just fine, too.

As she grows, this houseplant will want to vine. You can enjoy her on a moss pole or pinch/prune her new growth to keep her full and bushy.

Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested.
